Arrested for California DUI
California has established laws that pertain to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol (BAC – blood alcohol content), medication, or illegal drugs. According to these California laws, is it illegal to operate a motor vehicle with any of the following blood alcohol content percentages:
- 0.08% or higher―21 years of age, operating a regular passenger vehicle
- 0.04% or higher―21 years of age, operating a commercial vehicle
- 0.01% or higher―younger than 21 years of age, operating any type of vehicle
Additionally, the state’s laws prohibit the operation of a motor vehicle in California if there are:
Excessive amounts of prescription drugs
Drugs with alcohol in them (i.e., cough syrup)
DUI convictions on your California record for 10 years.
California DUI Penalties
The State of California comes down hard on DUI offenders. Depending on your criminal record, age, and/or license type, you could face criminal charges including but not limited to fines, jail time, license suspension, DUI school, and the installation of an ignition interlock device (IID).
